Just got back from my favorite market and I scored….
two boxes of organic bananas for $2.00 a box. If you’re a homemade blended formula mom/caregiver like me you know it can get expensive… so save any way that you can and one way… is to be nice to your local store manager, tell them what you do, and ask them to call you if they have ripe produce that is still good but can’t be put out. If you don’t use it they’ll just throw it away so you can get it for a fraction of the price or maybe even free.
You can take some of the bananas out of the peel and freeze them for smoothies for the rest of the family…
And use the rest for your formulas!
If you decide to use frozen bananas in your blended formula, in case you don’t know, make sure that you bring your formula back up to room temperature before giving it. Cold formula can cause painful stomach cramping.
REMEMBER…a ripe easily digested banana is a spotted banana! Countries that eat bananas as a staple of their diet do not eat bright, light-yellow, and partially green bananas like we do. Plantains, yes. Bananas, no. So go talk to your grocery manager and save some money!
